The biggest struggle that homeschool moms have is:

2025-06-16 · Janet Kieswetter

Mom Guilt.

Even supermoms who spend time nurturing and caring for their children struggle with guilt. It seems to be a battle that all moms face, not just working moms or stay-at-home moms.

Homeschool moms have the constant worry of “Are we doing enough?” If the kids play a lot that week, then they worry that they haven’t done enough school work. But the inverse is also true, if they worked very hard, then they worry that they were too hard on their kids, working them too much and not giving them enough time to rest or play.

What works to make me feel good is when I do a fun project with my kids and I can see they enjoyed it too! Where they learn and play and we spend time together in the process. That’s why Junior Saints is such a great curriculum. There are lots of fun activities that moms can do with their children. For the moms who want to do ‘enough’ work, all the subjects and necessary topics are covered so that they will know without a doubt, their chilfren are not ‘behind’ with school work. They are actually ahead with critical thinking and problem-solving skills. For the moms looking for more fun, creative learning for their children, this curriculum covers that too.

I think Mom Guilt is something we will continue to wrestle with as moms. We need to receive grace from God. When we have grace for ourselves, we can have grace for our children as well. But those nerves about doing the best for our children can also spur us on to work with them and make homeschooling a success!

Remeber the nerves you had before exams? What helped for that? Studying! As you covered the work and understood the content, the nerves subsided and you felt more prepared for the exam.

In the same way, getting down and buying the list of what you will need for the activity and then doing it with your child, causes that mom guilt to subside and actual joy replaces it.

When we chose to be homeschool moms, we took on a huge task. A heavy responsibilty. We can’t get away from that. We took the burden of education away from the system and put it square on our own shoulders. So accept that, ask God for help and then roll up your sleeves.

I think the best way to approach homeschooling, is to admit that this is a journey you are on TOGETHER with your children. You can’t teach them everything there is to know. But you don’t have to. The more you spend time learning together with your child, you will see their curisoity increase, their wonder at the world grow and instill a life-long love for learning.
